Gemme
If we said music has been quite slow in recognising the role of women in the development of the art of organised sounds, we would probably be quite close to the truth. Look from a distance and you will probably see a different picture than the one offered by literature, cinema or the fine arts, where women seem to have been praised for their endeavours for a longer period of time.
In the last years, though, the music establishment has tried to catch up with the other arts, and now feminism and music are hanging out more than ever. So, although the journey is very long, we should welcome every piece that could be added to the jigsaw, like the one conjured by our own Francesco Fusaro for the final episode of his show on Shoreditch Radio, Bar Italia.
Comprising eleven compositions by eleven Italian composers, Gemme was conceived for a Rockit mixtape series of the same name. The journey starts here, but the rest of it will be on you!
